Many people fear eating too much of just about anything will effect their health. One such food is sugar. Sugar is seen as such a bad thing when in fact it has its benefits.
Many foods we eat on a regular basis are loaded with sugar. Sometimes you can’t even taste the sugar but it’s still in there. As delicious as sugar-laden foods may taste, the truth is sugar is just bad for your health, especially when you start to overindulge in it.
Sugar is a sticky substance and if left in the bloodstream (instead of being burned as energy) the particles will start to stick to the cells. The result is that if you are consuming a lot of sugar each day, you will get more wrinkles, will experience a lack of mobility in the joints, dry brittle nails and hair and a range of other health problems.
We’ll talk only about processed sugars and corn syrup here (not fruit sugars). Consuming a large amount of processed sugar results in a large insulin spike as your body attempts to regulate your blood sugar. It’s thought that a continually high-sugar diet with these repeated insulin spikes eventually leads to insulin resistance- your blood sugar will require more and more insulin to stay in check. The theory goes that this will eventually develop into diabetes (type II) and you’ll require insulin shots.
Also is the fact that it’s empty calories. By consuming empty sugars, you exclude other nutritious fruits, vegetables and whole grains that your day’s carbohydrates could have been “spent” on. Since sugar is tasty, there’s also a very good chance that you’ll overeat, consuming high-sugar foods simply because they taste good and not because you’re hungry, which will lead to weight gain in the long run.
